Mauro Tempranillo

Posted in Tempranillo

We haven't really done much to discover Spanish wine yet. We did try a Riojas a couple of years ago, but it was extremely dry and tart. So we just moved on to something else. Not long ago, my wife and I stopped by a wine shop during a tasting and tried what we thought was an Italian red. It was good enough to buy a bottle. A few nights later we decided to open it up and see how it went with Mahi Mahi.

To my surprise, it wasn't Italian at all. It was a Spanish Tempranillo. I decanted it, but didn't allow it to sit. It was just as I remembered from the tasting. Smooth and fruity. A little tart at first, but it softened nicely. The wine's name is Mauro and the vintage we tried was 2005. Since then, I noticed it shows up at COSTCO on occasion. If you're a member, keep an eye out for it. Definitely worth a try.
