Singing Water Sauvignon Blanc

Posted in Sauvignon Blanc

You may have noticed that there are no Texas wines in this catalog (at least up until now). As a lifelong Texan, this could be construed as treasonous. It's not that I have anything against Texas wines. It's just that if you don't drink a lot of white wine and aren't big on Cabs or Merlot, there's not a lot of choices. However, just because we don't often drink Texas wine, doesn't mean we don't visit Texas wineries. Living in the Hill Country we're surrounded by them and visiting a winery is always a pleasant way to spend a weekend afternoon. Well, it was just a matter of time before we tried something that would catch our attention. And surprisingly, when it did, it was a white.

Just outside of Comfort is the Singing Water Vineyards. We learned about it from the owners of one of our favorite restaurants, the Terrace Grill at Riven Rock Ranch (also just outside of Comfort). Sometimes we need a place to kill some time before the restaurant opens at 5:00pm and they recommended Singing Water. Like all wineries, you can purchase a tasting to try a sampling of everything they have to offer. Normally, my wife and I enjoy the tastings, but don't get overly thrilled at anything. This changed at Singing Water. The second wine in the tasting was their 2009 Sauvignon Blanc. The best way to describe it was fresh, almost cleansing. We not only ended up buying a couple of bottles, we did something we have always avoided like the plague - We joined their club.

Of course, after finally finding a white wine my wife enjoyed and knowing we would most likely be visiting often, this obligation didn't seem like too much of a risk. Having been back a few times and now enjoying their 2010 bottling, I'm happy to say Singing Water Vineyards has become one of our favorite wineries to visit.
