Tenute Cisa Asinari Dei Marchesi di Gresy
Up until now, most of our Italian wine experimentation has centered on Tuscany. However, lately I've been reading up on the Piedmont region which has piqued my interest in Barolo and Barbaresco. Unfortunately, much like the Tuscan Brunellos, we're talking quite expensive. Maybe on the next "special" occasion, I can make the justification. Until then, I have decided to set my sites a bit lower.
My first try at a Piedmont wine was a Barbera d'Asti. There were a few to choose from and on recommendation, I chose a 2006 from Tenute Cisa Asinari Dei Marchesi di Gresy (wow, that's a mouthful). I was hoping to like it, but was really surprised at just how much I did. It was very dark in the glass which gave it the appearance of being heavy, but it wasn't. Through the entire meal, I kept saying to my wife "This is really good!". Now I can't wait to try more. It may be a while before I order another Chianti.
